Missing Foundation Flyer #2, circa 1988
The time has come for everyone to come out of your houses and protest the closing of Tompkins Sq. Park, the tearing down of the band shell, eviction of the homeless, and the cities washing away of musicians, artists, political activists, and the real issues of the neighborhood. The Dinkins administration continues to hide behind the real thugs of the Lower East Side…landlords, developers, greedy store owners, yuppies out from themselves, NYPD, HPD, CB3, and other corrupt groups pushing for gentrification. They have lost all sight of humanity and will stop at nothing to crush the people that makes NYC tick. The people of the Lower East Side have the power to override the bigger picture. This country has abandoned it’s people for other agendas. Military build up, NASA…Star Wars, Multinational Corporations and Foreign Affairs that only benefit the rich. We are tired of being slaves to a fascist government bent on evil. We are tired of no medical benefits, increasing taxes, no housing rights, drug wars created by the government to numb the masses, race wars to divide and conquer the nation, and jobs that barely keep you away from poverty. Closing the park will solve nothing. It will only create more anger and the violence will increase not decrease. This is one more step toward martial law, censorship, an all out police state on the area, and an attack on our intelligence. We will fight back, and Dinkins will regret the move. Instead of opening drug rehabilitation centers they are closing them. They are also closing the pools, the library, the Central Park Zoo, and other public facilities. When will we all wake up to the hypocracy. When will we stop waving the flag as we get screwed up the ass. Stop paying rent, fuck the New World Order, and resist…resist…resist…until the last drop of blood is spilled for real justice in the world and NYC. When the day comes to close the park we hope that everyone will come out of their holes to protest the mindlessness of this decision. As far as the riot after the concert in the park, I don’t see any justification for blaming any particular group. The reporters speak like right arms of the state. They only skim the surface of the confrontation, rather than looking down at how and why these people are desperate and down and out. If we do not fight this one, we will all be pushed out to the river, killed or even jailed. You will become trapped in your homes with nowhere to turn. It will be too late! Stop the curfew in the park or give up the last breeding ground of free thinking and a place to assemble.
